Girls Got Game is designed to give middle school girls an athletic outlet in urban Orlando areas to develop both on and off the court. They have become one of the most successful teams in Florida with their 6th grade team placing 1st in State Championships. Their motto is “If you believe you can, You will”.

They are currently hoping to expand to the web and use the website as a center of communication for team members their members and team staff.  They would also like to get the team’s message out to the general public in the hopes of collecting valuable donations which could contribute to uniform, equipment purchases and travel expenses.

The first competing site I looked at was http://www.ccaeagles.org/Sports/CCAgirlsbasketball/CCAGirlsBasketball.html.

I liked the drop down menu’s being used and thought that would be something I would like to use in the site. I felt that the colors worked well together especially the blue and yellow. I didn’t really love the top banner. I feel like it should grab more attention.

The second site I went to was http://www.nbps.org/page.cfm?p=190&display=0.

I felt this site had more of elegance to it. I like the role over causing the box around the words to darken so you can see what you are about to click. I think this makes going through the site easier. I liked how the top portion of the site being the name and logo stayed the same everywhere you went on the site. This gave the whole site a connection.

The third site I visited was http://www.teamfurybasketball.com/.

I liked the images at the top of this one. I think I will incorporate some images that will show the theme of the web site at the top of my site. I thought the colors on this site worked very well.

The fonts on the site were very simple and meshed together well and I also thought that the buttons were nice with the inverting color when you scroll over them.

The fourth site I went to was http://eteamz.active.com/essencegirlsbasketball/.

I thought this site was terrible. The colors didn’t work together and there menu was really boring.

I think the worse part was the use of several different text fonts and weights in the body.

The fifth site I went to was http://www.goldcoastgirlsbasketball.org/sponsorship/.

I liked the half basketball top and colors though I do think it looks a little elementary. I really liked the spinning basketball and the controls changing color when scrolled over. The whole site had a very good unifying feel.

I plan to be able to keep up with these competitions in my site. I plan to incorporate a title banner with a logo and corresponding imagery to the rest of the site that will be a constant throughout the site. I would also like to use some drop down lists and moving elements to give interest to the site. I am planning to make interactive buttons that change when scrolled over to keep with the site appearance being interactive.

The ideal users of the site would be young girls who are involved with the basketball team and parents of the team members.

The ideal user is a girl at 6th grade level who loves basketball. She would be a student living in Florida. She is likely in a latch key kid who needs programs to keep her entertained and in a safe environment. She is good with computers though she does not have access to the latest and greatest technology. She may even be using dial up internet.

The second ideal user would be the mother. She would be a mother of a number of kids that is trying to keep them in activities where they can enjoy and be safe. She works a 9-5 job and then cooks and cleans so she has very little free time so being able to get what she needs to find fast is important. She does not have great knowledge of computers and has access to limited technologies.

I want the site to have a feeling of fun, energy, and friendship.

As far as colors I want to use a yellow-orange (F2D34E), blue-purple (690EE0) with some green (16C12A) accents.

I want there to be photos on the site but not a lot. I want the site to portray an idea through imagery but not be image heavy. Most the images will be smaller. I plan to use a banner and possibly clip art like graphics on the site to represent the theme.

G3 does have an existing logo but is open to a redesign. So I think I will take their logo and maybe give it some new twists.

I don’t want the typography through the site to seem to busy so I plan to use a simple font like Georgia. For the top banner and also buttons I will use a different font something more along the lines of a bebas. The header will be very large the rest of the text will be a normal comfortable reading size between a 10pt and 12 pt.
